GREENWOOD – The Lander Athletic Department recorded a mark of 3.20 program-wide during the 2020 fall semester, it was announced today.
“I am extremely proud of all our student-athletes and the incredible work they did during the fall,” said athletic director Brian Reese. “Being a student-athlete is a challenge in a normal year and our players responded brilliantly to the ‘new normal’ they faced. I would like to thank all of our coaches and administrators as well for the countless hours they dedicated to helping our student-athletes perform in the classroom. I would also like to thank Lander’s outstanding faculty. Our student-athletes are truly appreciative for everything these incredible educators do.”
The women’s golf team led all programs with an impressive 3.841 mark. Women’s tennis, women’s soccer, and women’s cross country all recorded an average above a 3.50. In all, 12 different teams improved their team GPAs from the fall of 2019. 15 of Lander’s 21 varsity teams finished the fall with GPAs of 3.0 or better.
70 percent of all Bearcat student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA in the fall, with 11 percent posting a 4.0 GPA.
