Women’s soccer claims first NCAA Tournament bid in program history:
Coming off its best regular-season conference finish in program history, the Lander women’s soccer team continued its historic season as the Bearcats were selected to their first ever NCAA Tournament on Monday night, earning the No. 3 seed in the Southeast Regional.
The Bearcats (12-2-2) will travel to Jefferson City, Tenn., to play sixth-seeded Lincoln Memorial (14-4) at 11:00 a.m. on Friday in the quarterfinals.
The rest of the Southeast Region features fourth-seeded Flagler (11-3-2) facing fifth-seeded Limestone (17-2) for the right to play top-seeded Columbus State (16-0-2). The winner of Lander/Lincoln Memorial will take on the winner of second-seeded Carson-Newman (14-4) and seventh-seeded Catawba (13-5).
The Southeast Region champion will take on the South Region winner in the tournament quarterfinals.
In the South, top-seeded West Florida (20-0) will face the winner of fourth-seeded Lee (13-6-1) and fifth-seeded Rollins (9-3-5), while second-seeded Barry (16-0-1) awaits the winner of third-seeded Mississippi College (14-3) and sixth-seeded Nova Southeastern (13-6-1).
Lander notched its highest win total since 2013, while going unbeaten at home for the first time in program history. Four Bearcats earned all-Peach Belt Conference honors as the Bearcats finished second in the league.
