Lander sweeps Georgia College to move into second place in PBC standings:
The Lander volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over Georgia College on Friday night in Horne Arena to move into second place in the Peach Belt Conference standings. The Bearcats topped the Bobcats 25-22, 25-21, 25-18.
Lander (21-6, 7-4) and Augusta now hold identical overall and conference records. The Bearcats and Jaguars will play Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in Horne Arena. Georgia College (14-10, 6-5 PBC) fell to fourth in the standings.
The Bearcats erased an early 8-7 deficit with a 5-0 run, the last time Georgia College would lead all night, and held a 23-18 lead in the first set before the Bobcats rallied to pull within two points at 23-21. Imari Ashley took over from there, recording both of Lander’s final points in the set to give the Bearcats a 1-0 lead.
Lander turned to Hannah Hritz in the second set, as the sophomore came off the bench and scored each of the Bearcats’ final two points, putting the Bearcats up 2-0.
The Bearcats held a 20-11 lead in the final set, but Georgia College would put together one final comeback attempt, rattling off six consecutive points to cut the lead to 20-17. Needing one final run, Lander scored five of the next six points to seal the match.
Madilyn Reed posted a double-double with 46 assists and 13 digs, while Kaitlyn Krafka tallied 12 kills and 10 digs. Hannah McManus recorded 24 digs and Boo Luther added 12. Hritz finished the match with 10 kills.
