Bearcats place 7th at Peach Belt Conference Championship:

The Lander men’s cross country team finished ahead of in-state rival Francis Marion to place seventh at the Peach Belt Conference Championship on Saturday morning, ending the morning with 223 combined points.

UNC Pembroke claimed the league title, as three Brave runners finished in the top-10. Lander’s seventh-place finish marks the Bearcats’ best finish at the PBC Championship since 1999.

Fergus O’Rourke headlined the Bearcats with a 51st-place finish and a time of 29:12, while Trent Powers finished two seconds behind him to place 52nd. Zach Hiott, Chase Couch and Brad Daniels all finished within four seconds of one another to claim 56th, 57th and 58th.

McKenna Burrows ran a time of 31:24 and placed 63rd, while Sam Smith finished 65th in 31:45. Samonzy Wiggins, Evin Fortenberry and Aidan Kramer finished 67th, 68th and 69th, respectively. Joshua Chapman rounded out Lander’s team, finishing 71st.
