Bearcats fall to Clemson in exhibition contest:

The Lander women’s basketball team put three players in double-figures as the Bearcats fell to Clemson, 84-53, in an exhibition game in Littlejohn Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.

Mylea McKenith, Symone Starks and Jessica Harris combined for 35 points, going 14-of-16 from the free throw line. McKenith led the Bearcats with 13 points and four assists, while Starks posted 12 points and six rebounds. Harris finished with 10 points and a team-high four steals.

Aliyah Collier led Clemson with 17 points. Kobi Thornton tallied 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers. Simone Westbrook and Taylor Hosendove each finished with 12 points.

The Bearcats were outscored 38-28 in the second half as the Tigers managed to outscore Lander by just one point in the third quarter. Lander forced 24 Clemson turnovers on the day, including 17 in the first half.

Lander made 17-of-61 shots from the field (27.9 percent), going 3-of-15 from beyond the arc (20.0 percent). The Bearcats were 16-of-22 (72.7 percent) from the charity stripe.

Clemson, which led 46-25 at halftime, was 35-of-68 from the floor (51.5 percent), including 4-of-12 threes (33.3 percent) and 10-of-17 free throws (58.8 percent).

Lander travels to South Carolina on Friday for its second exhibition against a Division I opponent this preseason. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. in Colonial Life Arena.
