Lander rallies to beat Flagler, 2-1, in double-overtime:

The Lander women’s soccer team used a Kylee Eppl goal in the 104th minute to complete a comeback victory over Flagler at Van Taylor Stadium on Saturday night.

Lander (10-2-1, 5-2-1 PBC) earned its first victory over the Saints (9-3-1, 6-2-1 PBC) since 2013 and remained unbeaten at home on the year.

“You’ve got to give credit to Flagler,” said head coach Chris Ayer, “they’re a fantastic team. Our girls worked really, really hard. They had to settle down a little bit, but once they did, they figured it out. I’m very proud of them. This is a big-time win and I’m looking forward to where we’re going to continue to go.”

Flagler took an early lead on a goal from Annie Habeeb in the eighth minute, but Lander struck back before halftime when Brianna Taylor delivered a pass ahead to Emily Jermstad on a breakaway. Jermstad raced into the left of the box and chipped a shot inside the near post to give the Bearcats the equalizer at the 37:17 mark.

After battling through a scoreless second half and first overtime period, the Bearcats netted the winner when Juliette Vidal crossed a ball to Jermstad near side of the box. Jermstad sent a cross in front of the net and Eppl chipped the pass just ender the crossbar and over the outstretched arm of Saints keeper Sarah-Lisa Dubel to give Lander the victory.

Lander hosts Francis Marion on Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. for its final home match of the regular season.
