No. 10 Bearcats drop 3-0 decision to No. 3 Young Harris:
The 10th-ranked Lander men’s soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Saturday night, falling to 3rd-ranked Young Harris, 3-0, in front of a record crowd of 548 fans at Van Taylor Stadium.
The Bearcats (8-1-1, 2-1 PBC) saw their shutout streak snapped at 606:25 when Young Harris (11-0, 3-0 PBC) took a 1-0 lead on a Seba Andreassen goal at the 17:32 mark. Lander came just 12:44 shy of setting the program record for the longest stretch without conceding a goal, set in 2013.
The Mountain Lions tacked on another goal in the 47th minute when Alex Jacq curled a shot inside the far post.
Young Harris capped the scoring with just 40 seconds left in the match when Val Feeney converted a penalty kick to make the score 3-0.
Jacob Withers made a career-high seven saves for Lander in the loss, while Alex Iglesias made eight stops for Young Harris.
The loss marked the first regular season Peach Belt Conference loss for the Bearcats since Oct. 17, 2015, and just the third in four seasons under head coach Lee Squires.
Lander travels to Carson-Newman on Wednesday night for a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m.
