Bearcats topple Augusta, 3-1, behind complete team performance:

The Lander volleyball team got double-digit kills, assists or digs from seven different players on Friday night as the Bearcats defeated Augusta 3-1 in Christenberry Fieldhouse. The Bearcats knocked off the Jaguars 25-27, 25-15, 25-21, 25-22.

Lander (16-3, 3-1 PBC) continued its best start in program history and ended Augusta’s (14-4, 3-2 PBC) three-match winning streak.

Kaitlyn Krafka picked up her 11th double-double of the season with 20 kills and 18 digs, while Madilyn Reed set career-highs with 55 assists and 23 digs. Hannah Hritz tallied 17 kills and Reilly Kuenstler tied a season-high with 15 kills. Hannah McManus led the Bearcats with 27 digs, Boo Luther added 13 digs and Kyra Ross finished with 11 digs.

Augusta rallied from a 21-17 deficit to take the first set and led 10-8 in set two, but Lander closed on a 15-7 run to tie the match at 1-1. The Jaguar stormed out to a 9-2 lead in set three and looked poised to seize control of the match up 14-10, but the Bearcats answered with a 9-1 run, highlighted by four kills from Hritz. Lander held on to take a 25-21 win and a 2-1 lead in the match.

Tied 22-22 in set four, a kill from Kuenstler gave Lander the lead before Luther put the match away from back-to-back aces.

The Bearcats continue the weekend road trip on Saturday afternoon, traveling to Georgia College for a 12:00 p.m. match.
