Ferguson, Withers claim Peach Belt Conference weekly awards:
Kyle Ferguson and Jacob Withers have been named Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Defender and Goalkeeper Player of the Week, respectively, for the period ending on Oct. 1. The pair was instrumental in Lander’s efforts in earning a tie at Queens and a win at USC Aiken.
Ferguson, a sophomore playing his first season with the Bearcats, anchored a Bearcat defense that allowed just 12 shots and two shots on goal in 200:00 of action last week. The native of Hamilton, Scotland, attempted one shot at Queens and helped limit the Royals to two shots on goal in the draw. Ferguson and the Bearcats then prevented USC Aiken from attempting a single shot on goal in a 1-0 victory.
Withers posted two shutouts on the week. The freshman made two saves to blank Queens on Wednesday and directed a Bearcat defense that kept USC Aiken off the board on Saturday. The North Augusta, S.C., native has not allowed a goal in any of his three starts this season.
The 10th-ranked Bearcats (7-0-1, 2-0 PBC) return home to host West Alabama on Monday and PBC rival Young Harris on Saturday.
