No. 10 Lander shuts out fifth straight opponent, tops USC Aiken 1-0:

The 10th-ranked Lander men’s soccer team posted its fifth consecutive shutout and got a goal from Robbie Young in the 12th minute to beat USC Aiken, 1-0, on Saturday night.

The Bearcats (7-0-1, 2-0 PBC) have not allowed a goal since the 61:07 mark against Tusculum on Sept. 8, a stretch of 498:53 of action. Only the 2013 team, which shut out its first six opponents and did not allow a goal over the first 619:08 season, has a longer shutout streak in program history. The Pacers (2-4, 0-2 PBC) suffered their fourth shutout loss of the season.

Lander got on the board at the 11:37 mark when Thibault Chretien found Young on the right side of the goal for his second goal of the year.

The Young score would be all Lander needed, as USC Aiken managed just three shots on the night. Goalkeeper Jacob Withers did not have to make a save for the Bearcats as Lander held a 12-3 advantage in shots.

The Bearcats step out of Peach Belt Conference play on Monday night as Lander welcomes West Alabama to Van Taylor Stadium for a 5:00 p.m. kickoff.
