Lander blanks Flagler for first time in program history:
The Lander women’s volleyball team earned its biggest win of the season to date as the Bearcats recorded a 3-0 shutout of conference foe Flagler on Friday night The Bearcats shut out the Saints 25-20, 25-19, 25-23.
Lander (14-3, 2-1 PBC) recorded its first shutout in program history over Flagler (6-9, 1-2 PBC) and its third win ever against the Saints.
Lander fell behind 10-6 in the opening set, but a string of six attack errors by the Saints led to an 8-0 Bearcat run, which Flagler never recovered from. Lander led 23-20 and clinched the first point of the night on back-to-back errors from the Saints. In total, Flagler committed 14 errors in the first set as the Bearcats held the Saints to a .023 hitting percentage. Lander hit .226 in the first set.
The Bearcats took the lead on a Kaitlyn Krafka kill for the opening point of the second set and never trailed, fighting off the Saints as Flagler forced five ties in the set. Kills from Krafka and Kyra Ross put Lander up 16-13 and the Saints would not pull closer than two points the rest of the set and the Bearcats pulled ahead 2-0.
In the third and final set, Lander broke an 18-18 tie with a pair of kills from Krafka and Ross punctuated the victory with a kill as Lander earned its second conference win of the season.
Krafka led the Lander attack with 20 kills on the night. Hannah McManus tallied 25 digs and Boo Luther added 12 of her own. Madilyn Reed finished with 44 assists in the win.
Lander hosts rival Erskine at Finish Horne Arena on Tuesday, Oct. 2, for its annual “Dig Pink” match.
