Bearcats place four runners in top-40 to finish fifth at Jaguar Invitational:
The Lander men’s cross country team raced to a fifth-place finish on Saturday morning at the Jaguar Invitational, finishing ahead of Peach Belt Conference opponent Francis Marion by two points.
Lander was led by Fergus O’Rourke, who finished 31st with a time of 29:49. Junior Brad Daniel finished just seconds behind O’Rourke to come in 33rd while freshmen Chase Couch and Trent Powers finished 37th and 38th.
Freshman Sam Smith recorded a time of 31:39, nearly six minutes ahead of the final Patriot runner, to help the Bearcats secure fifth-place in the eight-team field.
Joshua Chapman finished 43rd, while Evin Fortenberry, McKenna Burrows and Samonzy Wiggins ended within 29 seconds of each other to come in 47th, 48th and 49th-place. Aidan Kramer rounded out the Lander runners with a 58th-place finish.
Augusta won the event, finishing ahead of Georgia College and Clayton State.
Lander will take part in the Upstate Invite on Saturday, Sept. 29, in Spartanburg, S.C.
