Lander Athletics, Knights of Columbus partner to reach Connie Maxwell goal:
Lander Athletics, thanks in part to a contribution from the Knights of Columbus council of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Greenwood, has reached its $2,500 fundraising goal for the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home.
Knights of Columbus, a long-time partner of the athletic department, met with Lander athletic director Brian Reese and representatives of Connie Maxwell to present a check for $1,220 to help Lander reach its fundraising goal. Bearcat student-athletes, coaches and administrators participated in a two-day service initiative at the children’s home in August.
The service days were performed in conjunction with Lander’s fundraising project to raise money for the purchase of book bags, school supplies and archery equipment for the children.
The Bearcat women’s tennis team has furthered the partnership with Connie Maxwell by working with the United State Tennis Association (USTA) to donate tennis nets, rackets, and balls along with offering tennis lessons to kids throughout the school year.
Lander’s softball and baseball teams are planning separate game nights to fellowship and mentor the childen and their families at the home.
The Bearcat men’s and women’s basketball teams intend to be involved with the Christmas festivities on the Connie Maxwell campus throughout the month of December.
