Women’s soccer blanks rival Erskine for 12th win over Fleet in 13 tries:

The Lander women’s soccer team extended its unbeaten start to the 2018 season with a 2-0 win at rival Erskine on Wednesday night.

The Bearcats (5-0) controlled the proceedings, holding a 14-6 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Sarah Owen tied a season high with four saves to record her third shutout in four matches, and Kelcie Fisher and Juliette Vidal’s goals proved enough for the win.

The victory marked Lander’s 12th win over the Flying Fleet (1-3) in 13 contests.

Fisher’s goal, the first of her career, opened the scoring in the 20th minute after Vidal and Emily Jermstad worked the ball across the box to a cutting Fisher, who fired a low shot past Erskine’s Sara Dooley for the score.

Vidal doubled Lander’s advantage just two minutes later when Jermstad delivered a long through ball to Vidal, who beat Dooley one-on-one in the box, giving her a goal in her fourth consecutive match.

The Bearcats begin Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday night when Lander hosts 22nd-ranked Georgia College at Van Taylor Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
