Lander Baseball this spring
By Luke Johnson
The Lander University baseball team is currently preparing for their upcoming 2018 season, and they will open up at home against Mount Olive on February 3rd. After going a defeating 21-31 (.404-win percentage) last season, the Bearcats are looking to bounce back this season in a big way. Head Coach Jason Burke is hugely optimistic about this season and is confident in the “more mature” roster. The Bearcats will be returning 24 players from the 2017 roster and have brought in 8 transfers from other schools.
With all the players that have returned from the 2017 roster and the talent that the coaching staff has brought in, Coach Burke has set the bar for the 2018 season very high and stated that the goal “is to win a National Championship.”
The Bearcats play a daunting 2018 schedule. The coaching staff created this problematic gauntlet so that, come playoff time, their team, in Coach Burke’s words, “will have already played the best and be ready.”
Senior captain Alex Conaway had a few words to say on the upcoming season. “We have been preparing all year for this season, and I know we have the talent to take on anything other teams have to throw at us.”
The Lander University Baseball Team wants and needs our support this season to accomplish their goals. So come out and support your fellow Bearcats on opening day, February 3rd, and Go Cats!
