No. 22 Lander looking to bounce back against Converse on Monday night


GREENWOOD – The No. 22-ranked Lander women’s basketball (5-2, 1-1 PBC) steps out of conference play on Monday night as the Bearcats host Converse (5-4, 1-1 CC) at 7:00 p.m. in Finis Horne Arena.

• Lander is looking to win its eighth consecutive home game against a non-conference opponent.

• The Bearcats defeated Converse 91-49 last season in the Courtyard Classic in Spartanburg, S.C.

• Lander is coming off its best two rebounding performances of the season. The Bearcats grabbed 46 boards against rival Erskine last Thursday and 43 at Columbus State on Saturday.

• The Bearcats suffered their worst shooting performance since January 8, 2014, in the loss to Columbus State, shooting 28.2 percent from the floor.

• Three Bearcats are averaging double-figures this season; senior center Breshay Johnson (14.7 ppg), senior guard Mylea McKenith (14.0 ppg) and junior guard Christal Williams (10.6 ppg).

• Lander leads the Peach Belt Conference with 510 points scored this season.

• The Bearcats are averaging 19.0 made free throws per game and shooting 74.3 percent from the line this season, ranking second in the conference in both categories.
