GREENWOOD – Lander women’s tennis head coach Brett Simpson has announced the team’s 2018 schedule. Coming off a 9-9 season, the Bearcats will face six teams that ended the 2017 season ranked in the top-50.
“The Peach Belt conference alone is always challenging with usually five or six teams ranked in the top-25 nationally,” said Simpson. “Hopefully the tough early schedule will ready us for the remainder of the season.”
The Bearcats start their spring season on February 3-4 at the City of Florence Collegiates in Florence, S.C. They then host Newberry (Feb. 8) before heading to Belmont, N.C. to take on Belmont abbey (Feb. 17). From there, the blue and gold travel to Franklin Springs, Ga., to face Emmanuel (Feb. 20).
PBC play begins with three matches in three days, as Lander hosts Columbus State (Feb. 23), Georgia Southwestern (Feb. 24) and Georgia College (Feb. 25). The Bearcats play their first conference road match on March 2nd against Francis Marion and travel to Young Harris on Mach 6th. A trip to Augusta (March 16) rounds out a three-match road stretch.
Lander returns home to face Flagler on March 18th and travels to USC Aiken on March 23rd. The Bearcats conclude the month by hosting North Georgia (March 25) in the final home match of the season.
Road trips to Limestone (Apr. 2) and North Greenville (Apr. 11) wrap up the regular season.
The PBC Tournament will be held in Florence, S.C. and runs from April 20 to April 22.
