Women’s soccer falls to No. 8 Columbus State in PBC quarterfinals

Columbus, Ga. – The Lander women’s soccer team (8-8. 4-6 PBC) season came to an end as the Bearcats fell to No. 8-ranked Columbus State (14-2, 8-2 PBC) in the quarterfinals of the Peach Belt Conference Championship on Tuesday by a score of 5-0. Senior forward Logan Lewis led the Bearcats with three shot attempts and one shot on goal.

Freshman midfielder Maddy Peterson headlined the Cougars with two goals behind four shot attempts. Columbus State took advantage of four goals in the second half en route to the tournament win.

Lander goalkeeper Sarah Owen made eight saves in the losing effort. Owen made an impressive 61 saves in her freshman season.

Hannah Martin entered her 2017 season with one career goal at Lander. With the campaign at its end, the senior registered six goals to lead the team in that category. Senior Sara Floresrecorded four goals on the season, with three of those scores coming as game-winners for the Bearcats.

Columbus State will advance to the semifinals to take on either 3rd-seeded Flagler or 6th-seeded Young Harris on Friday.
