GREENWOOD – Junior defender Jordan Skelton and freshman goalkeeper Alexsander Holboe of the Lander men’s soccer team (11-3-1) have been named the Peach Belt Conference Defender and Goalkeeper of the Week, the league announced today.

Skelton claimed his third weekly honor of the season after leading the Bearcats defense to a pair of wins with just two goals allowed. The Newcastle, England, native led the defense to a shutout win over Georgia Southwestern that clinched the PBC regular-season championship. The shutout win was the sixth for the Bearcats this year, tops in the league. Skelton had an assist in the game against GSW and scored a goal in a 3-2 loss to Queens to start the week. He is now tied for the team lead and tied for eighth in the PBC with seven goals on the year. Lander as a team is second in the PBC with a 1.22 goals allowed average.

Holboe posted his first career shutout as the Bearcats captured the regular-season championship with a 3-0 win at Georgia Southwestern.  The freshman from Oslo, Norway, played 189 minutes in two games last week, allowing three goals while making five saves.  The win over GSW was his first career start on the road in PBC play.

Lander secured its second consecutive PBC regular season championship and will be the top seed in the upcoming PBC Tournament. The Bearcats will face either Flagler or Clayton State at 5:00 p.m. in the tournament semifinals on Friday, Nov. 3, in Evans, Ga.
