No. 15 Bearcats in ninth after 36 holes at McDonough Cup

Orlando, Fla. – The No. 15-ranked Lander men’s golf team stands in ninth place after 36 holes of the McDonough Cup at the Rio Pinar Country Club.

Sophomore Conor Richards (73-74=147, +3) stood out as the Bearcats’ top performer on Monday, moving into a tie for seventh with a second round of two-under. The Hampshire, England, native has been in the top-10 after each round thus far.

Michael Brodie (76-72=148, +4) sits in a tie for 11th, while James Bartlett (75-78=153, +9) is tied for 38th after two rounds of competition.

Garrett Atkinson (79-78=157, +13) and Braydon Evans (85-78=163, +19), meanwhile, round out the Lander lineup in ties for 67th and 86th, respectively.

The Bearcats (303-302=605, +29) saw a one-shot improvement over their opening round, but competition was tight 10 of the teams on the 18-school leaderboard improved their overall score in the second round. Newberry (+2) paces the field with Rollins (+9), Mount Olive (+17), Young Harris (+21) and Wingate, Queens and Flagler (+27) rounding out the top-five.

The tournament concludes Tuesday morning with the Bearcats set to tee off at 8:06 a.m. alongside golfers from Carson-Newman and Flagler. Live scoring and results for the Bearcats can be found on GolfStat.com.
