GREENWOOD – Sophomore George Knight of the Lander men’s soccer team was tabbed Peach Belt Conference Defender of the Week as announced by the league Monday afternoon.

Knight played a crucial role in the No. 17 Bearcats’ 2-1 win over Carson-Newman on Saturday night, improving Lander’s record to 10-2-1 overall. The Basingstoke, England native guided the Lander defense as the Bearcats stretched their unbeaten streak to eight consecutive matches. The Bearcat back line held the Eagles to 11 total shots, five of those on goal. Carson-Newman’s goal came on a free kick. Knight also contributed to the offense, scoring the first goal of the match and putting in a cross for an assist on the second. Lander is currently second in the PBC with a 1.16 goals allowed average.

The recognition marks Lander’s third Defender of the Week honor and ninth weekly award of the season.

Lander resumes action Wednesday, Oct. 25 when the Bearcats host Queens at 5:00 p.m.
