Johnson and McKenith named Preseason All-PBC by coaches

GREENWOOD – Peach Belt Conference coaches selected Breshay Johnson and Mylea McKenith to its Preseason All-PBC team, the league office announced on Tuesday.

The selection of Johnson and McKenith marks the second consecutive season Lander has placed two players on the team.

Johnson, a Hopkins, S.C., native, was named Preseason All-PBC for the second consecutive year following a stellar junior season that saw her honored as the D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year and Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year. The Bearcat senior averaged a team-best 16.8 points per game for the season and tallied 14 double-doubles, tied for second-most in the PBC.

She led the PBC in field goal percentage and was second in total rebounds. A two-time All-Conference selection, Johnson averaged 9.9 rebounds per game for the year. She has scored 1,428 career points with 750 career rebounds.

McKenith tallied Preseason All-SEC accolades after rating second on the team with 16.2 points per game a year ago. The Durham, N.C., native was tabbed as the Co-Defensive Player of the Year and led the conference with 96 steals.

She earned Second Team All-PBC accolades following a junior season that saw her rank second in the league in total points, seventh in free throw percentage and ninth in total assists.

Francis Marion’s Shaunice Fulmore, Alyah McGriff of Georgia College and Columbus State’s Machala Raymonville comprised the remainder of the Preseason All-PBC Team.

Johnson, McKenith and the rest of the Bearcats officilly begin the season Nov. 10, facing Lincoln Memorial at 5:30 p.m. in Aiken, S.C., at the PBC/SAC Challenge.
