Palm Harbor, Fla. – After a two-week absence, the No. 23-ranked Lander men’s golf team will return on Monday and Tuesday for the Copperhead Championship in Palm Harbor, Florida. The two-day tournament will be hosted by the University of West Florida at the Innisbrook Golf Resort- Copperhead Course.
STORYLINES:
- Competitors at this week’s tournament will face one of the longest courses of the year in the acclaimed Copperhead Course. The course measures more than 7,200 yards with a number of small lakes and ponds to provide golfers with a stiff test.
- The Copperhead Course has hosted 17 PGA Tour events including the last four Valspar Championships in March. During its time on tour, the course’s three finishing holes have earned the nickname of “The Snake Pit” as a result of its combined difficulty and propensity for creating tension at the top of leaderboards.
- After a tough 10th-place finish in the team’s season opener at the Cougar Invitational, the Bearcats rebounded at the UNG Fall Invitational with a 2nd-place finish.
- SophomoreConor Richards led the way for Lander with a 7-under par performance and a runner-up finish at the UNG Fall Invitational. Senior James Bartlett narrowly missed out on the top-10 with an 11th-place finish of 1-over par. Sophomore Jon Parker finished one stroke back of Bartlett at 2-over.
