No. 23 Bearcats hold share of fifth place at Copperhead Championship

Palm Harbor, Fla. – The No. 23-ranked Lander men’s golf team ended the first day of the Copperhead Championship in a three-way tie for fifth place, thanks in part to a strong showing during the event’s second round.

Lander (296-288=584, +16) came into the second round at the Innisbrook Resort’s Copperhead Course sitting alone in eighth place among the 15-team field. After a four-over performance the Bearcats vaulted past Barry and into a tie with Lee and Valdosta State heading into the tournament’s concluding 18 holes. Nova Southeastern (+2) leads the field with Lynn (+4) trailing by two strokes

Conor Richards (71-70=141, -1) moved into the top-five with a one-under second round Monday. The sophomore holds a share of fifth place after two rounds, sitting three shots back of tournament leader Alberto Castagnara of Saint Leo. Michael Brodie (74-73=147, +5) is tied for 28th after carding a two-over second round. Garrett Atkinson (76-73=149, +7) is tied for 34th, along with James Bartlett (77-72=149, +7), who bounced back to fire a one-over second round and move up 15 spots. Jon Parker (75-78=153, +11) enters the final round holding a share of 56th place in the 75-player field.
