GREENWOOD – The No. 19-ranked Lander men’s soccer team (9-2, 5-0 PBC) notched its sixth consecutive victory in a 3-1 win over USC Aiken (3-6-1, 2-3-1 PBC). Sophomore Robbie Young found the back of the net for the fourth consecutive game as the Bearcats kept their perfect conference record intact.

Junior midfielder Sinclaire Sandy started off the Bearcat scoring attack with a goal in the 35th minute behind the assist from junior Richard Bryan. The goal marks Sandy’s fourth career score with Lander. Just four minutes later, junior midfielder Sia Jamedar picked up his third goal of the season to give the Bearcats the 2-0 advantage. Sophomore George Knight was credited with the assist off the Jamedar goal.

USC Aiken responded within seconds of the second half with a goal of their own. Senior midfielder Driss Baraket registered the 45th minute Pacer goal to cut the Lander lead to 2-1.

Not to be outdone, Young countered for the Bearcats in the 53rd minute with his fourth goal of the season to make the score 3-1 in favor of Lander. The sophomore Scotsman has already eclipsed his season high of two goals last season at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.

Sophomore goalkeeper Dean Cowdroy made four saves on the match to limit USC Aiken to just one goal. Cowdroy ranks second in the Peach Belt with an impressive 1.08 goals against average.

Lander will step out of conference play on Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. road matchup against Mars Hill.
