Columbia, S.C. – The Lander men’s cross country team finished 5th in this year’s Koala Classic hosted by Columbia College. Freshman Evin Fortenberry paced the Bearcats with a time of 32:07 and a finish of 24th.
Three Bearcat runners ran within one minute of one another. Freshman Yancy Killian led the way with a time of 33:57 and a finish of 36th. Freshman Josh Chapman finished just one spot behind in 37th with a time of 33:57, while freshman Jeron Brown wasn’t far back with a time of 34:52 and finish of 40th.
McKenna Burrows rounded out the host of Lander runners as the freshman placed 50th with a time of 40:41. Tusculum took the event victory behind four runners finishing in the top ten.
The Bearcats will return to action in two weeks to participate in the team’s first Peach Belt Championship since 1999. This year’s championship will be hosted by Columbus State in Fort Benning, Ga.
