No. 23 Lander takes the lead at UNG Fall Invitational

GREENWOOD – The No. 23-ranked Lander men’s golf team moved into the lead at the UNG Fall Invitational Monday with a strong showing during the event’s opening two rounds.

Lander (292-280=572, -4) came into the second round at the Achasta Golf Club sitting alone in fifth place among the 13-team field. After an eight-under performance the Bearcat vaulted to the top of the leaderboard heading into the tournament’s concluding 18 holes. Second-place North Georgia (E) trails Lander by four strokes after a one-under second round.

Sophomore Conor Richards (74-66=140, -4) maintained his spot in the top-five with a six-under second round, tying him for the lowest round of the tournament. Richards holds a share of fourth place after two rounds with fellow sophomore Jon Parker (67-73=140, -4), sitting two shots back of tournament leader Scott Odell of Lee. Senior James Bartlett (74-69=143, -1) vaulted into a tie for 10th place by carding a three-under in his second round.

Junior Michael Brodie (77-72=149, +5) is tied for 30th, while redshirt-junior Garrett Atkinson holds a share of 50th place in the 76-player field.

The tournament concludes Tuesday with the Bearcats teeing off at 9:00 a.m.
