Lander returns to action with home match against Augusta

GREENWOOD – The Lander volleyball team (9-1, 2-0 PBC) looks to continue its hot start in conference play on Friday as the Bearcats host Augusta (8-4, 2-1 PBC) at 6:00 p.m. in Horne Arena.

STORYLINES:

• Augusta enters having won four of its last five matches. The Jaguars lost to Francis Marion in their Peach Belt Conference opener before rebounding with wins over UNC Pembroke and Georgia College. Augusta has played just one true road match this season, falling to Queens in Charlotte on Sept. 2.

• Lander is 22-19 all-time against Augusta. The Bearcats and Jaguars have split the last six meetings in the series.

• The Bearcats opened PBC play with a pair of home victories over UNC Pembroke and Francis Marion last weekend. Lander swept the Braves 3-0 and notched a 3-1 win over the Patriots. Freshman Hannah Hritz led the Bearcats with 25 kills on the weekend.

• Lander is 17-3 this season in the second and third sets. In the second set, the Bearcats have outscored their opponents 239-190.

• Sophomore Hannah McManus was tabbed as the PBC Specialist of the Week. The Boiling Springs, S.C., native racked up 47 digs, including 28 against Francis Marion.

• Friday is Faculty Appreciation Night at Horne Arena. Players will be joined by their selected professors on the floor prior to the match.
