Wingate, N.C. – Jeron Brown and Matthew Killian led the way for the Lander men’s cross country team as the freshmen helped the Bearcats to a 15th-place finish at the 7th annual Bulldog Stampede hosted by Wingate University.
Saturday’s invitational marked the team’s first 10K race of the season. Brown and Killian recorded times of 41:35 and 41:54 with finishes of 98th and 100th respectively.
Peach Belt Conference foe Augusta claimed the team win after placing five runners in the top 10 to go along with the individual crown taken by sophomore Daniel Broadhead.
Evin Fortenberry and Joshua Chapman weren’t far behind Brown and Killian as the freshman placed 109th and 113th with times of 43:02 and 44:26 respectively.
Freshman Mckenna Burrows rounded out the group of Lander runners with a time of 50:30 and a finish of 121st.
Lander will have a two-week layover before returning to action in the Koala Classic 8K on Oct. 7th hosted by Columbia College.
