No. 5 Lander falls in top-five battle at Armstrong State

The No. 5-ranked Lander men’s tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision in a battle of top-five Peach Belt Conference teams on Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 4 Armstrong State at the Armstrong Tennis Complex.

Lander, who saw its 13-match winning streak snapped with the loss, moves to 14-3 on the season and 8-1 in PBC play. Armstrong State improves to 15-5, (8-1).

In singles play, No. 1 Jules Vauthier (LU) def. Luca Cerin (ARM) 3-6, 6-3, 7-6; No. 2 Alberto Caceres Casas (ARM) def. David Korsten (LU) 6-4, 6-7 (7-1), 6-1; No. 3 Eirik Groner (LU) def. Ignacio Hernandez (ARM) 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (11-9); No. 4 Jan Porteset (ARM) def. Alexandre Springer (LU) 6-7 (11-13), 6-2, 6-0; No. 5 Ozan Cildir (LU) def. Bjorn Kurtze (ARM) 7-5, 6-4; and No. 6 Alvaro Cruz Chomorro (ARM) def. Omar El-Moslemany (LU) 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles play, Caceres Casas/Porteset (ARM) def. Marc Hofer/El-Moslemany (LU) 8-1; No. 2 Cerin/Hernandez (ARM) def. Korsten/Groner (LU) 8-4; and No. 3 Vauthier/Cildir (LU) def. Kurtze/Lorenzo Camilli (ARM) 8-3.
