Housing Sign-Up 2017

By Lindsey Loparo

Every year around this time, upperclassmen start signing up for where they want to live the next year. This year, though, a new process for signing up for housing has been introduced to the student body. Every year before this, students have had a time assigned to them and they physically go to the Housing Office to decide where they want to live the next year. That system was time-consuming and frustrating to students and faculty, so the housing department announced an online housing sign-up this year.  The new Housing Portal is a link in MyLander, and that is where you can fill out your housing profile.

Carter Verrelli, a resident assistant in University Place, says, “This new housing sign-up is way more organized and time-efficient. A new feature Mia Spires, a student and resident in Lide, said that really interests her is the “roommate questionnaire.” This feature works much like a dating website where the student fills out a personal profile, has a bio, and answers a few questions. The system then matches you with roommates who had similar answers to the questions as you. Spires says, “It is really cool to not just have a random roommate anymore. I really think this will help me next year with choosing a good roommate who I’ll get along with.”

So go ahead and log on to the housing portal today to make sure you get the room and roommate that you want! Next semester will be here before you know it and move in day will be just around the corner!

  1. I think this is a good idea that is significantly overdue. I was shocked to learn that an online housing registration is just now being implemented. Other schools I have attended practiced this as well as the roommate questionnaire. I think Lander is late in the game for this, but I’m happy to hear that they’re finally making this move.
