The College English Association Annual Conference is being held in Hilton Head, South Carolina this year and one of Lander Universities own students, Graham Duncan, will be presenting. This is the first professional conference Graham has presented in and he is presenting the first academic paper he’s written, “for the sake of giving an issue a voice.” Duncan gave credit to Dr. Sean Barnette in suggesting he present in the conference, as he wanted to do something further with his research project he started in class.
Duncan will be presenting a paper that discusses how rhetorical practices are used in the creation process of monuments and memorials. Duncan said he is “looking at how segregation is used as a rhetorical practice in the creation of the Greenwood War Memorial, as well as the current movement to change the monument.” Graham interest in this was sparked with the movement to change a local monument, and he is presenting in order to inform others about the topic.
The College English Association’s 48th Annual Conference will be held from March 30-April 1, 2017. More information can be found here: http://www.cea-web.org
