Wind Ensemble to perform at Lander on March 2
GREENWOOD, S.C. – The community is invited to a free concert featuring Lander’s Wind Ensemble on Thursday, March 2, beginning at 8 p.m. in the Abney Cultural Center Auditorium. Musicians will perform selections by American composers Alfred Reed, Clifton Williams and John Philip Sousa; Australian-born composer Percy Grainger; Czech composer Julius Fucik; German composer Richard Wagner; and Russian composer Alexander Scriabin.
The program includes:
· Queenston Overture by Alfred Reed
· Solemn Fugue by Clifton Williams
· El Capitan by John Philip Sousa
· Florentiner by Julius Fucik, arr. by Lake
· Invocation of Alberich by Richard Wagner, arr. by Cailliet
· Nocturne by Alexander Scriabin, arr. by Alfred Reed
The concert concludes with the spotlight on trumpet player Brandon Hooven, a senior music major at the university, performing in Lincolnshire Posy, by Percy Grainger. The six-movement work is based on English folk song melodies. The program is FALS-approved for Lander students
