Homecoming 1980 style!
By: Becca Watford
One thing never changes around Lander University, even in 1980 Homecoming was a big deal. In 1980 their activities included: “Skit Night” (this is the year it became an annual tradition, thanks 1980!), building displays, disco, a pep rally, a bonfire and fireworks. Homecoming day for 1980 was February 9th, with most of the celebrations occurring on the 8th. They started their Homecoming week on the 6th, so this was before we started celebrating all week long. The “Senators” played against the College of Charleston. In the 1980s there was also a dance after the game with a midnight breakfast offered. This year’s Homecoming week is February 6th-11th, and will also include a bonfire. The whole list of activities is included on the Lander website.
