Women’s basketball rolls over Warren Wilson

SWANNANOA, N.C. – The Lander women’s basketball team had seven different players score in double-figures as the Bearcats defeated Warren Wilson, 128-59, on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game in Devries Gymnasium.

Lander improves to 3-2 overall, while the Owls drop to 4-6.

The Bearcats were led by Jessica Harris, who connected on 11-of-15 floor shots, for a team-high 25 points. Ty’hesha Reynolds tallied 23 points and nine rebounds; Breshay Johnson had 17 points and 15 rebounds; Destinee Langford and Zuzana Talackova each finished with 16 points and six rebounds; Mylea McKenith finished with 13 points; and Alexius High netted 11 points.

Warren Wilson’s Danasia Dumas scored 26 points to lead the Owls, while Jada McCrimmon added seven points and three assists.

After taking a 29-21 lead in the first quarter, the Bearcats outscored the Owls 99-38 over the remaining 30 minutes, inculding a 39-11 advantage in the third quarter. Lander’s defense allowed just seven field goals in the second half and the Bearcats were 4-of-4 from beyond the arc in the fourth quarter.

Overall, Lander shot 48-of-86 from the field (55.8 percent), including 13-of-23 threes (56.5 percent), and 19-of-24 from the foul line (79.2 percent). The Bearcats outrebounded Warren Wilson 52-18.

The Owls connected on 19-of-33 floor shots (35.8 percent), including 9-of-20 three pointers (45 percent), and 12-of-20 free throws (60 percent).

The Bearcats play their first home game of the season on Thursday, Dec. 1, as Lander hosts rival Erskine at 5:30 p.m., in Horne Arena.
