The Office of Career Services at Lander University provides students with self knowledge about career choices and employment opportunities. Students can take advantage of the department during the entire time they are attending Lander University, whether it’s from freshman to senior year, or an alumni.
Even if a student is undecided about a major, Amanda Morgan, Director of Career Services Is available to go over all of the majors offer at Lander. One-on-one advising topics can range from writing resumes, cover letter development, interviewing skills, and even applying for graduation school. They are also able to assist students and alumni’s with contacting professional references, and even tips on dressing for success.
Career Fairs and Graduate Fairs are hosted every October, allowing students to gather on campus and check out several universities that offer insight into the graduate study program.
“I work with employers directly, so if employers are looking to hire students for part time work to full time, I work with them to post the jobs and send out emails to students” stated Amanda Morgan. Besides the Career Fair, Lander has now started a new session called Survivor Job Fair, and it is held the first week that students arrive on campus. This new fair will help students who are looking for part time work while either on campus or off campus. “With the new president here, there has been a stronger emphases placed on Career Services and the expansion of the department,” stated Amanda Morgan.
Free personality assessments are available on Lander website. The department asks that students complete the assessment before coming into the office, so they can discuss those and the career options related to the results. For alumni’s who are having trouble securing a position or even change the industry they are in, you are welcome to come in and receive help with the job application process and where jobs are being posted. So where ever you are located, come in and speak, Career Services are here to help and make the process easier for you.
