Lander University Habitat for Humanity
Lander University’s Habitat for Humanity President, Jessica Trotter has a special connection to this organization. Raised by a single mother, hardships were experienced by her family, which left them in the need of assistance. Her mother worked for the Habitat for Humanity retail store in Anderson, South Carolina. It was here that the Trotters learn that they qualified for a house. They not only qualified, they were given a house.
“I credit who I am today to that little house and the opportunities that Habitat gave me, exclaims Trotter.”
Trotter’s methodology directly aligns with those of Habitat for Humanity. Habitat is a non-profit Christian housing organization. It holds the founding ideals of providing housing that is safe, decent and affordable to everyone despite race or religion.
“My personal hope is that Habitat can bring hope to our community and serves as a joining force for our campus and community. Habitat is an organization that everyone can play a role in, expresses Trotter.”
Habitat for Humanity is a large organization is always seeking new members. There is no limit to the number of people who can join nor is a membership deadline. There are both volunteer and member positions available. These positions are open to all students, faculty, staff and community members. To become a member, one should either contact habitat@lander.edu or attend an upcoming meeting. All upcoming meetings will be announced through Lander email. Dues are required to be paid by members, this fee is $10.
“It takes an army to build a house and we would love to have as many involved as possible, says Trotter.”
