GREENWOOD – Richard Bryan and Dean Cowdroy were named Peach Belt Conference Defender of the Week and Goalkeeper of the Week, the league office announced today.
Bryan, a sophomore from Enfield, England, led a Bearcat defense that allowed just one goal in two matches this week as Lander clinched the regular season PBC title. The sophomore connected with Jamie North and Conor Felstead for a pair of assists in Lander’s 9-0 win over UNC Pembroke. He has tallied more assists than any other defender in the Peach Belt this season and ranks seventh in the league with five assists. He has also helped Lander record a PBC-best six shutouts and league-leading 1.05 team GAA.
Cowdroy, a freshman from Canberra, Australia, allowed only one goal in 180 minutes of action in two Lander wins last week. The freshman set a new PBC record with his fifth weekly honor of the season in the same week that Lander wins the PBC regular-season championship and the #1 seed for the upcoming tournament. Cowdroy made three saves in picking up his league-leading sixth shutout of the season in a 9-0 blowout win over UNC Pembroke. He then made six saves as Lander was outshot by Montevallo 16-15 in a 3- 1 Bearcat win, the lone goal he allowed coming on a penalty kick. Cowdroy leads the PBC with a 1.05 goals allowed average and is second in save percentage. Lander is ranked 22nd nationally in shutout percentage.
