GREENWOOD – Michael Leach‘s goal in the 107th minute capped a furious Lander rally as the Bearcats topped Young Harris, 3-2, in double-overtime in a Peach Belt Conference match on Saturday night at Van Taylor Stadium.
Lander improves to 9-3 overall and 6-0 in the PBC, while the Mountain Lions fall to 5-6, (2-3).
Young Harris raced out to a 2-0 lead, courtesy of goals from Carlos Gomez at the 19:06 mark and Anthony Tshimpi at 57:02.
The Bearcats got on the board at 58:29, when Richard Bryan converted a penalty kick to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Sam Lofts tied the match at the 69:47 mark, scoring off an assist from Hugo Delhommelle to force overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime session, Leach ended the evening on a George Knight assist to keep the Bearcats unbeaten in league play. The six consecutive wins to begin PBC play are the most for Lander since starting 7-0 in the conference in 2010.
Lander hosts UNC Pembroke on Wednesday night at 7:30 p.m.
