
GREENWOOD, S.C. – Rachel VanHorn delivered the game winning goal in overtime Wednesday night at Van Taylor Stadium, giving the North Georgia Nighthawks a 3-2 win over the Lander Bearcats.
With the win, North Georgia improves to 6-1-2 overall and 4-1-1 in Peach Belt Conference play. The Bearcats fall to 2-6-1, (1-3-1).
Brynn Finneran opened up the scoring for the Nighthawks at the 35:46 mark, connecting off of a VanHorn assist.
Emily Jermstad knotted the score at 1-1 at the 49:54 mark when she netted her second goal of the season off a Logan Lewis assist.
VanHorn connected with Jessi Vaverka for her fifth goal of the season midway through the second half to give North Georgia a 2-1 advantage.
With less than three minutes left in regulation, at the 87:12 mark, Victoria Lange delivered her first goal of the season to tie the match at 2-2.
At the 96:56 mark, just under seven minutes into the first overtime period, VanHorn delivered her sixth goal of the season.
Megan Wiley grabbed eight saves for Lander.
