The flu season is quickly approaching, but like most viruses it can be prevented. The best way to protect yourself from contracting the virus is to get a vaccination shot. “It is recommended to receive the shot as early as October, due to flu activity increasing during the month of December, January, February, and March”, stated Kim Williams. It is also recommended that any students with any kind of health concerns should visit the Wellness center for proper examinations and/or treatment during their operating hours, which are 8:00 am-5:00 pm Monday through Friday
Kim Williams is one of Lander University’s registered nurses, who is available on campus when school is in session and during operation hours. For any students who need more serious medical care, the nurses will set an appointment for you with the Montgomery Center, where you will be seen by a physician. Any medicine, treatment, x-rays, etc., prescribed by the physician would be the financial responsibility of the student. So to help prevent the flu or to keep from spreading the virus, here are some tips:

- Wash hands under warm water for 15-30 seconds
- Always use hand sanitizer
- Purchase Disinfecting Wipes and Lysol (Cold & Flu)
- Cover your mouth/ nose with a disposable tissue when you cough or sneeze
- Don’t share food or drinks with anyone
If these tips are used, you will definitely get through the winter with no problems. Students and faculty members should also be on the lookout for an email from the Nursing Department. They will be offering Flu shots this year for a small fee. So remember, stay warm and stay healthy.
