This week at Lander University, members of the political science association held a drive to make sure all students on campus had an opportunity to register to vote. To ensure all students are eligible to exercise their right to vote, the political science association took a stand and set up the drive. This drive consists of members of the political science department along with volunteer members of the sociology club.

Dr. Richburg, head of the political association, said she was thrilled about the movement. She stated, “Coming into college most freshman kids are not registered, and to ensure they get registered we will be set up on campus for their help.” She went on to say that the registration drive will show students how easy of a process it really is.

Students often feel it will take too much of their time, so they don’t bother with it. “Being that we are here on campus, right at their reach, it will take the students no time to get involved in the movement,” stated Dr. Richburg. She also said feels that she has some wonderful group members to ensure having a successful outcome.

The goal of this drive is to encourage the attitude of wanting to be involved in politics. Many don’t realize, you have to be registered 30 days before the date of the election. With this being the case, the department is trying their best to ensure all students are prepared when the time comes to vote.
