Lander men’s soccer outlasts King, 2-1, in overtime victory

GREENWOOD – The Lander men’s soccer team earned its third consecutive victory on Sunday afternoon as Lander pulled out a 2-1 overtime win against King at Van Taylor Stadium.

Lander improves to 4-3, while King falls to 3-4.

After a scoreless first half, the Bearcats took the lead when Lofts fired a stirke from the right side of the box off an assist from Michael Leach at the 52:43 mark.

King evened the score at 1-1 on a header from Juan Nabor off Faber Bickerstaffe’s corner kick at 69:16.

Conor Felstead gave Lander the victory at the 94:12 mark, sneaking a shot past Tornado keeper Kari Sveinsson off Jamie Lunn‘s assist for his first career game-winner.

The Bearcats outshot King, 20-11, and led in corner kicks 6-3.

Sveinsson tallied nine saves, while Lander’s Dean Cowdroy had two.

Lander next travels to in-state PBC rival Francis Marion for a 7:30 contest on Wednesday, Sept. 28.
