Lander names Rixon Lane Assistant AD for Sports Media

GREENWOOD – Rixon Lane was named Lander University’s next Assistant Athletic Director for Sports Media it was announced today by Acting Senior Associate Athletic Director Kevin Pederson.
Lane replaces Bob Stoner, who will retire from Lander after 28 years, including 21 as the full-time SID. Lane will start his new position on September 1.
“We are excited to welcome Rixon to our Bearcat family as our next Sports Information Director,” said Pederson. “We have been blessed to have Bob Stoner as long as we have and he will leave some big shoes to fill, but we couldn’t ask for a more qualified individual than Rixon Lane to help promote our athletic programs moving forward.
“Rixon is a young, bright and energetic person who will work tirelessly to push Lander Athletics to the forefront in today’s many different media venues.”
He will be in charge of promoting Lander’s 10 varsity sports programs, in addition to overseeing landerbearcats.com, social media, video stream broadcasts, press releases, photography, publications, statistics and a host of other public relations duties. Lane, who has previously worked as a freelance broadcaster and writer, has called games for ESPN3, the SoCon Digital Network, The Cube, local access television and two radio stations, while writing for multiple online publications.
A 2014 graduate of the University of South Carolina, Lane earned a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism while covering South Carolina athletics for print, radio and television. He is a native of Woodruff, S.C., and is married to Samantha, a former soccer standout at Converse College
At 24 years old, Lane becomes one of the youngest sports information directors in the country at the NCAA level.
