Lander Unveils New Scholarship Initiative for Area High School Seniors

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Lander University has unveiled a new initiative that will help deserving, talented students from the Lakelands region save thousands on the cost of attending the university.

The District Scholars program is designed to provide significant scholarship assistance – ranging from $4,000 to $12,000, based upon GPA and SAT/ACT scores – to graduating seniors from Greenwood, Laurens, Edgefield, Abbeville, McCormick, Newberry and Saluda counties.

“We are excited to offer this scholarship opportunity to the graduating seniors in our seven-county region,” said Andy Benoit, Vice President for Enrollment and Access Management at Lander. “With the District Scholars program, Lander University is making a significant investment in our regional community, and we believe it will be a game-changer.”

Lander administrators are visiting with superintendents, principals and guidance counselors from each school district to announce details of the program. The amount of scholarship funding awarded is based upon the recipient’s high school grade point average and college entrance exam scores – ranging from $4,000 for an SAT score of 1000 or an ACT score of 19; to $12,000 for an SAT score of 1600 or an ACT score of 36. All recipients must have a minimum 3.0 GPA. The scholarship offer is valid through March 20 or while residential space is available at the university.

To qualify for the District Scholars award, graduating seniors must:

  • be eligible for admission to Lander University as either a first-time freshman or first-time transfer student;
  • reside on campus in one of Lander’s 10 residence halls; and
  • apply for admission, be admitted, submit the enrollment confirmation form, submit a housing application, and pay the $150 non-refundable housing deposit to Lander by March 20, 2018.

Recipients may major in any academic discipline at Lander. The scholarship is renewable, as long as the recipient resides in Lander-assigned housing and remains in good standing at the university, earning at least 30 semester hours each year and maintaining a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
