Finding the Write Stuff
By Austin Costenbader
Chances are, many of you got to English 101 and 102 and found yourself lost about a certain aspect of a writing assignment.
“Oh gosh, we didn’t learn this in high school,” is a common reactions from students according to Chase O’ Dell, a tutor in the Writing Center at Lander University.
“I wish students knew that the Writing Center helps with more than just grammar and proofreading,” O’ Dell stated, “We help with every step of the process, and every subject.” Over the past year, the Writing Center has worked to add features that make tutoring more accessible to students.
Currently, the Writing Center operates Monday through Friday with a wide range of times to ensure students have access to a time that best fits their schedule. They also offer evening hours in the library for commuter students, or “vampires”.
And if you do not want to leave your dorm or apartment at all, the Writing Center has begun holding workshops on different writing subjects through Facebook Live and Instagram Live. These topics range from information on thesis statements, grammar advice, and citation formats.
Writing Center appointments can be made online at mywconline.com, or visit the Learning Center – room 347. Tutors also urge all students to bring their rubric for the assignment, print copies of their essay, and good questions!
